Is 2D/3D/4D ultrasound safe for me and my baby?

YES, there is no difference when it comes to 2D/3D/4D ultrasounds they all transmit the same sound waves and have been used for over 60 years, after many studies they have found that the sound waves transmitted by ultrasound have no harm for Mom or Baby!

Ultrasound is a very common and practiced procedure during all stages of pregnancy.

When is the best time for a 3D/4D ultrasound?

This answer varies depending what you are looking to see.

3D/4D ultrasound is available to you at any stage of your pregnancy, to see baby as a whole it is best between 14 -  20 weeks.

Between 21-27 we can see baby facial features starting to develop.

Between 27 - 35 weeks is the best time to see baby's facial features such as chubby cheeks, cute yawns and smiles.

It is possible to see baby at 35+ weeks it depends on baby's positioning and amniotic fluid levels.

Twin pregnancies are best seen between 23 - 27 weeks, anything greater then 27 weeks it is unlikely you will see baby's faces due to lack of space and fluid around baby's face.

Do I need a doctors referral?

NO !

Since all ultrasounds done at The Baby Boutique are for keepsake purposes only we do not require or accept doctors referrals.

Is this appointment covered by OHIP or private medical insurance?

Since this is an elective ultrasound for keepsake purposes only, OHIP does not cover the cost of this ultrasound.

For private medical insurance you would need to contact the company individually and send the receipt of your purchase. We accept all major credit cards, debit, cash & e-transfer.

Can you provide me measurements or give me a due date for my baby?

Since this is an elective ultrasound for keepsake purposes only, our technicians are not permitted to give you an estimated due date or do any fetal measurements! In NO way are ultrasounds provided by The Baby Boutique a replacement for a diagnostic or medically indicated ultrasound.

What factors determine the quality of my images?

By far the most important factor in receiving good quality and clear imaging is the position of the baby, if the baby is facing the Mom's spine, cuddling the placenta (anterior) or has hands/feet/cord in its face it can make imaging difficult and sometimes can require a redo ultrasound at no additional charge.

Heavier set moms can sometimes have extra tissue on the belly which also may affect image quality, sometimes simply switching positions to a side or flat laying position can eliminate this issue!

Other critical factors are placenta position and lack of amniotic fluid (drinking 2L of water for 2 weeks before your  appointment is super important!)

If all our secret tips/tricks just don't help us we will always bring you back in for a free redo ultrasound!

How can I prepare for my 3D/4D ultrasound?

W A T E R

- water is the most important part of prepping to get clear quality photos that will last a lifetime we recommend you drink at least 6 - 8oz glasses of water each day for 2 weeks prior to your 4D ultrasound.

S U G A R

- we recommend you drink a sweet/cold beverage 10 minutes before your ultrasound to make sure the baby is awake and moving for us! Orange & apple juices work great.
